Organized animal protection is now 200 years old, and this session will explore how skillful use of our history can help us engage more supporters in the future. Animal Care Expo favorite Bernie Unti will examine four key themes from a historical and contemporary perspective and show how they serve as guideposts for communicating our message. He'll discuss the relationship between cruelty to animals and interpersonal violence, the connections between animal protection and other causes, the challenge of embedded and sanctioned cruelties, and the task of inscribing our values within a range of social institutions. Bernie will share how on-point storytelling and communication concerning our history can helps develop new supporters from outside the animal protection movement.
